Robin Trower Back Live after 6 years

Peter Anderson • May 25, 2024

It has been six years since the iconic guitarist Robin Trower has graced the UK stage. He will return in May for three special shows; Tuesday 28 May at the Islington Assembly, London, then Thursday 30 May at the Glasshouse in Gateshead and Friday 31 May at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth. He will be playing songs from across his formidable back catalogue; from Bridge of Sighs all the way up to Joyful Sky.

For six decades, Robin Trower’s career has been an act of quiet rebellion. Rewind the reels of the British guitarist’s backstory and you’ll find an artist who has always rolled the dice rather than take the path of least resistance. In the early-’70s, Trower announced his fearless streak by leaving the security of Procol Harum for a gold-selling solo career whose ever-present Bridge Of Sighs - album filled the stadiums of North America.

Since then, he’s flowed from his own projects to collaborations with everyone from Jack Bruce to the United State Of Mind supergroup alongside Maxi Priest and Livingstone Brown. Fast-forward to 2024 and Trower’s new studio album, Joyful Sky, represents vindication for his latest flash of artistic instinct. A literal lifetime since he first stepped onto the British blues circuit as a cub gunslinger, that fabled Trower power shows no sign of burning out.

In fact, the iconic guitarist’s late-period acceleration is something to behold, sweeping up new fans alongside the hardcore who have followed his every move. “I think this record is more accessible than the stuff I’ve done over the last few years and I’ve got a feeling it’ll reach more people,” says Trower of Joyful Sky. “At my age, to still be doing it, and still turning out good stuff – you really appreciate what a blessing that is.”

Trower released his latest album, the US #1 Billboard Blues album, Joyful Sky, featuring powerhouse New York singer Sari Schorr, in October last year on Provogue / Mascot Label Group. From the album they released the smouldering single “Burn”, the propulsive and Bond-like “I’ll Be Moving On” and the upbeat groove-rocker “The Distance”. You can order and stream the album HERE, and Tickets are available HERE for the three gigs.

“ ...Robin demonstrates his vulnerability through poignant and introspective lyricism " - Wonderland Acclaimed Swedish pop artist Boy In Space (Robin Lundbäck) releases his highly anticipated new EP 'Copium' along with a cinematic new video for single Mayflowers. This year has seen Boy In Space be more vulnerable than ever, as he has opened up about both physical- and mental health struggles through his music. Having already released tracks Atom Bomb, Finally Fine Without You and The Last Time. this newest offering will act as the fourth and final single, coinciding with the release of his EP ‘Copium’. The accompanying new video sees Robin take on a fresh role as both an actor and co-director, beautifully blending his passion for filmmaking with his staple raw vocalism and earnest lyrics. As the new EP reflects themes of vulnerability and self-improvement, Mayflowers is a nostalgic anthem about being able to appreciate the past. Boy In Space: ” With the music video for 'Mayflowers,' ROOM7 and I were heavily inspired by the movies 'Taxi Driver' and 'The Tree of Life.' " We wanted to contrast those settings. One being very dark and gloomy, and the other being beautiful and light, like the memories of what used to be. It was a great learning curve being a co-director on this project and also being a silent actor. We filmed the video in my hometown of Alingsås, which made the process a lot easier, knowing the best locations for certain scenes. ” ” Coming from a time in my life with a lot of challenges and changes, working with 'Copium' really has been an important coping mechanism for me these last months and has given me a chance to get a lot of things off my chest, It's a collection of songs I honestly can say I'm really proud of. " The EP arrives after a tumultuous few years for Robin. In addition to undergoing three surgeries and facing physical health struggles, he has had to wrestle with the mental challenges that come with living with ADHD. The final two songs, Mayflower and Somewhere Far Away, certainly reflect themes of mental health and self-improvement, but this project has also allowed Robin to explore his creative interests on a lighter note. " It’s been so much fun to dive into my interest in old school films in making the visuals for this EP. The people I’ve worked with are crazy talented, both on the music and visual side of things. It really does feel like a perfect relaunch for me to get an outlet for my creativity and a springboard for where I want to go next. I would love it if ‘Copium’ could help others to cope with whatever they are going through like it has helped me .” Boy In Space achieved international success at a remarkably young age. After embarking on a world tour with his brothers, he transitioned to launch his solo career in 2018, solidifying his position on the global music scene. His distinctive voice, whimsical writing style, and versatile productions quickly captivated the pop world, leading to an impressive tally of over half a billion streams on Spotify alone. All the while maintaining independence as an artist and touring extensively in the United States and Europe. He keeps on shining armed with a new team, a fresh visual identity and a wealth of new music. Collaborations include Alan Walker, The Struts, 1Mind, Toby Gadd, Pink Sweat$, Phoebe Ryan, Jordan Shaw, NOTD, Shy Martin, John Newman, Red Triangle, Nick Furlong, Rod Wave, Freddy Alexander, among others. With this brand new attitude and determination to put an imprint on today's pop sound, the future looks bright for Boy In Space. to keep an eye on where his new orbit should take him: FIND BOY IN SPACE ONLINE: YOUTUBE / SPOTIFY / INSTAGRAM / TIKTOK
